Sharjah to invest $ 500 million in AUS research
The government of Sharjah plans to invest half a billion dollars (1.8 billion AED) in the American University of Sharjah (AUS) over the next five years to fund the university’s goal of becoming the best research university in the Arab world. According to an interview with Gulf today With Hussein Al Mahmoudi, Managing Director of AUS Enterprises, the investments will focus on doctoral programs and the establishment of specialized laboratories for six research areas identified by the university for development.

the AUS Research, Technology and Innovation Park (RTI) * is currently under development, adjacent to the American University of Sharjah campus, by the commercial and investment arm of the university AUS companies. The park will encourage research, development and knowledge companies to set up in the free zone.
Formed in a free economic zone, the first phase of the RTI park should open by the end of 2018 and be able to accommodate up to 200 companies. Six areas of intervention have been identified for the RTI park: water technology, renewable energies, environmental technology, digitization, production design and architecture, as well as transport and logistics. Targeting local and global businesses, including private and public sector companies, the free zone plans to offer offices, science laboratories and residential housing.
The park is part of Sharjah’s efforts to foster innovation, encourage entrepreneurship and develop a sustainable knowledge economy. ‘Sheraa’, a new entrepreneurship center, was launched at the American University of Sharjah in 2016 by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), with the aim of inspiring young people to start their own businesses and enhancing the profile of the emirate as a preferred destination for startups. .
AUS is ranked 7th in the 2015 QS University Rankings for the Arab Region and offers 26 majors and 45 minors at the undergraduate level, as well as 13 master’s degrees.
