Yolo County gives residents 24/7 online access to historical collections – Daily Democrat
To increase access to the Yolo County Archives (YCA) and the Yolo County Historical Collection (YCHC), the county recently unveiled its new digital asset management system. This platform contains digital reproductions and information on historical documents and objects of Yolo County. Individuals are encouraged to start exploring by visiting, https://yc-ais.axiellhosting.com/.
Using simple, advanced and expert search options, this platform allows users to simultaneously search thousands of records from YCA and YCHC or from each collection independently. Records include textiles, documents, furniture, ephemera, county records, photographs, maps, plans and more. Thousands of digitized photographs are available and new digital content will be added over time.
“We are delighted to make our collection available online so that residents can take the initiative to learn more about the history and heritage of Yolo County when it fits their needs and schedules,” said said Yolo County Archives and Records Center Coordinator Heather Lanctot.
The Yolo County Archives is the official repository for the Yolo County archives. The collection dates from 1850 to the present day and contains records from various agencies in Yolo County and donations from families, community members and local businesses.
The Yolo County Historical Collection consists of historical artifacts from the 1830s to 1930s and illustrates the lives of the original inhabitants of Yolo County. The collection includes textiles, paintings, archaeological objects, ceramics, household items and more.
In January 2019, the Yolo County Board of Supervisors awarded the Yolo County Library a Technology Innovation Grant of $ 99,900 for the purchase of a digital asset management system. YCA and YCHC worked with the Department of Finance to conduct a competitive solicitation process to select a vendor with a digital asset management system that best matched the county’s needs.
The successful bidder, Axiell, helps institutions share their culture and knowledge, and their clients are libraries, museums, archives, schools, publishers and retailers in 55 countries.
For in-person research assistance, YCA is open by appointment Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. Individuals can make an appointment by email, [email protected], or by calling (530) 666-8010.
